What is actually in the cartridge
Most whole-house filters at this price are a single block of unspecified carbon. The GAF10 is two media, and we will tell you exactly which grades.

| KDF85 copper-zinc alloy | 200g | Iron and hydrogen sulphide — the metallic taste and the rotten-egg smell that carbon alone will not shift. Also bacteriostatic, so it inhibits bacterial growth inside the housing between changes. |
Why KDF85 and not KDF55? The two grades are not interchangeable. KDF55 is the higher-zinc, lower-cost grade made for chlorine in drinking water. KDF85 is the higher-copper grade specified for whole-house duty, and it is the one that deals with iron and sulphur compounds. It costs us more per cartridge. We use it because the SBB10 sits on your incoming main, not under a kitchen sink — and plenty of systems sold at this price use no KDF at all.

What this system does not do
We would rather you bought the right thing than the wrong thing. The SBB10 is not a water softener and does not remove limescale — if you are in a hard water area and scale is your main complaint, the 3S-10BB adds a dedicated antiscale and resin stage. The SBB10 also treats your cold main only, so it will not filter water already sitting in a hot tank. For lead-specific reduction at the drinking tap, see the HP99.
